Don’t be alarmed, but you may be shrinking . . .

after the age of 40 the disks in the spine lose their fluid and actually compress. By the time they reach 60, most men will have shrunk by about 1 ¼ inches.

What’s a man supposed to do? For starters, think about your posture every day and concentrate on keeping your spine aligned. You will not only appear taller, your back will thank you! Other healthy tips for your 40s and beyond:

  • Work out
    • you should work out a minimum of three hours total a week.
  • Avoid injury
    • If you want to stay in the game, concentrate on exercises that will strengthen your core –stretching may be boring but will pay off the day after
  • Gain muscle
    • For every pound of muscle you carry your body burns an extra 50 calories
  • Feed your bones
    • You are naturally losing bone mass every day. Calcium is still an important part of your diet and once you hit the big 5-0 you need to up the daily intake to 1200 mg. Also double your Vitamin D (for calcium absorption) to 400 IU.
