Over 40

Despite what you have heard, the Flabby 40s are not inevitable.

While it is true that metabolism may slow down a bit and women lose muscle mass 2x as fast as men, not everyone wakes up at 40 with an extra 20 pounds. And many of the changes in our musculoskeletal system result more from disuse than from simple aging.

A few simple changes in your approach to maintaining your health can go a long way:

  • Soften the impact while staying active – trade the aerobics and volleyball for walking, pilates and elliptical trainers. You’ll still feel good without limping into work
  • Increase your intake of folic acid and iron to fend off heart disease and anemia. ¾ cup of iron-fortified breakfast cereal gets you your daily dose of both!
  • Get your annual check-up and be sure to include a mammogram and blood pressure and cholesterol screenings
