Over 20

Ok, we know once you hit your mid-20s to 30s life gets busy and there’s no slowing down. But how you keep healthy at this age will largely determine your health for the rest of your life. The important things to concentrate on now are

  • Sleep
    • Your days of pulling all-nighters should be over. Not getting your ZZZZs can drag you down mentally and physically, and age you (literally) overnight.
  • Eat
    • A gradual loss of bone mass, generally beginning about age 35, is a fact of life for everyone. Combat that by taking in enough calcium – at least 1,000 mg per day. Here’s some surprising ways to get it:
      • Swiss cheese – the highest calcium of all cheeses (one slice – 270 mgs)
      • Broccoli – 280mgs/cup
      • Almonds – 162 mgs/cup
  • Exercise
    • Make time for exercise each day – whether its Zumba lessons, a pick-up game with your buddies, or taking your best friend to the dog park, exercise maintains your joint health and is a great de-stresser!
  • See a doctor
    • Your mother can’t make you go to the doctor anymore, but this is the time of your life where you should want to go. Now is the time to get a heads up on any family history of disease and check out your risk factors.  Diabetes, high blood pressure and other lifestyle illnesses may be lurking in your near future. See a doctor and plan a defensive line of attack.
